Most chronic disease in the second half of life is the late expression of a single underlying biology, namely smouldering chronic inflammation, driven by metabolic dysfunction, deeply entangled with the gut microbiome. Schools sit in the most consequential window for underlying biology: the years where eating, sleeping and movement patterns are laid down, where stress regulation is learned (or not), where the gut microbiome is calibrated by the school catering environment. EPOCH NUTRITION partners with independent schools to bring the prevention-led clinical framework into the catering operation, the pastoral programme and the scholar performance work.

What an engagement involves

A scoping conversation with the bursar, head of catering, head of pastoral care or senior leadership. Where engagement proceeds, the institutional partnership covers: the Nutrition Assessment Framework applied to the school’s catering operation, calibration of menus against the same clinical principles, training of catering staff in the framework, optional clinical engagement with senior staff and senior pupils through the EPOCH clinical programmes, and the Foundation pathway for staff who would not otherwise access the clinical work.

The Foundation pathway for school staff

A proportion of EPOCH commercial revenue is committed to the EPOCH Foundation, applied uniformly across every clinical stream and the EPOCH Nutrition institutional arm. For schools, this means the Foundation extends the clinical and educational standard to teaching and support staff who would not otherwise have access to it.
